| CID's compounds contain pure diamond powder, crushed and graded by the latest methods, which assure a uniform, strong, blocky particle for the greatest lapping efficiency. Each lot is checked carefully for particle size and shape, with a permanent record kept in our files for each lot made. The diamond is mixed with a vehicle formulated to keep it in uniform suspension and provide a lubricant and cleaning action. Each grade is color coded for easy identification. |

CONTENT
Light, medium and heavy content refers to the proportion of diamond powder to the carrier vehicle. Usually the heavy content will have the fastest stock removal rate. Choice of content is a matter of job requirement and individual user preference. A heavy content compound can always be thinned to a lighter content by the addition of thinner. The light content will not cut faster by applying additional amounts. The excess will be forced from the lapping area and carry the diamond with it.
Customers have a choice of an oil soluble or water-soluble vehicle. The oil soluble compound is more popular. Water-soluble compound is especially recommended for free cutting action on large areas when using the fine grit sizes. For clean up of oil suluble compounds use a solvent. For clean up for water soluble compounds, use soap and water.
USES
Diamond compound can be used for lapping all materials from the hardest to the softest. The use of diamond compound is a must on the harder materials and where the cutting action must be accurately controlled for precision sizing and finishing. Diamond stays sharper, in use, than any other abrasive. This gives a controlled cutting action with fewer tendencies to smear softer materials. Diamond compound is regularly used in lapping and polishing of ceramics and in establishing mirror finishes to mold and die work.
LAPPING SUGGESTIONS
Laps can be of almost any material, ranging in hardness from cast iron, to copper, to wood, to cotton. The lap should always be softer than the piece being lapped. A soft lap will give a higher finish than a harder one with the same diamond particle size.
Customers should use a different lap for each grade of diamond compound. Diamond particles are pushed into the lap by the harder work piece and cannot be removed. Use a small amount of compound evenly distributed.
Clean and wash the work piece thoroughly when changing to a finer grade compound. Failure to do this causes many of the difficulties encountered in obtaining a perfect finish.
